Well hi. We've had our hygiene review for the business and the local council have docked us a coveted star because we do not have on site hand washing facilities and are insisting we should have.

We are external caterers and only ever cater for private events at either private residences or specific venues such as village halls/wedding venues and as such *always* have access to hand washing facilities. This is shown with our communications with prospective clients, insisting we have access to the above. However, the council have a bee in their bonnet and are insisting we have portable hand washing facilities on site *as well*

Because we don't always have access to our van, 12v heated systems are not going to be suitable, but we've been informed a "flask" type of water container would be acceptable, as long as it is topped up periodically with "hot" water. Sigh.

So - the actual question is does anyone know the minimum temperature for "hot hand washing" water? I can't see anything in legislation regarding temps. I looked here: The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 but that just states "hot" water. We are looking for a cheap solution because quite frankly, once it's been ticked off we will never use it again until the next inspection so want to know if something like this Ebay 15 litre drinks flask are going to appease them.

Ta :)

Tricky one, as there's also scalding risk.

At work, in our buildings worth hundreds of millions of pounds, the disabled toilets need to be thermostatically regulated between 38 and 43°c.

For non-disabled you want around 55 ideally. Our cleaners cupboards go close to 70 but they're trained to not be idiots and burn themselves to death.

someones gotta tick a checklist somewhere... must be a number on it :p

I had one in last week. Tried to tell me that our anchor bolts didn't meet specification. Took a little while to figure out that he thought that the building's cradle would be suspended from them, rather than them being a fall arrest system for abseilers. He tried every trick in the book until I pointed out that I was significantly more qualified than he was in the industry than he was and wasn't some schmuck trying to wing it.

He admitted his ignorance and left soon after :p
