Hi all, wasn't sure whether this thread warranted the mobile section as it's a contract query rather than a device thread so, if it needs moved, mods please feel free to do so.

I'm coming to the end of my current contract with EE. 18 month plan on a Nexus 6 @ 34.99pm.

I'm keeping my device until Christmas where i will upgrade as i don't want to tie in to another 1-2 year contract, so I'm going SIM only.

Spoke with EE as my upgrade period is here, and the deals aren't great. No loyal customer discount or anything, same price plans as a new customer.

Current usage has been 3-4gb 4g data per month, very low calls and texts so it's only really a lot of data I'd need.

I've seen i can go with virgin and get 8gb data, 2500mins and unlimited texts for around £12pm BUT on a one month rolling contract which is appealing. Being able to leave if i spot a very good deal is a bonus, plus no fees to leave if i don't find them very good service. I'm aware they operate on EE network so signal will be fine too. Only downside is EE use superfast 4g so I'd get double the speed but i don't stream a lot so 30mbps is fine to be honest.

I guess what i am asking is does anyone here have a plan or recommend a plan for £12 max per month? I know it sounds tight, and a few quid per month isn't breaking the bank but I'm more annoyed that there are no perks for staying customers with EE, when I've been with o2 in the past they were always offering discounts to keep me which is a nice touch.

And also does anyone recommend any other networks over EE? I know virgin and talk talk mobile have good rates when looking at uswich.

Thanks

I stayed with EE when my contract ran out. They let me go sim only for £8 a month for 4gb data and unlimited mins and texts. Try just asking them for a good sim only deal.

Have you tried in an EE store? I got a significantly better deal in the shop. They are franchised stores, so will basically sell their grannies to strike a deal.

Giffgaff payg any good to you? I have my wife and eldest girl on the 10 pound goodybags they get 2gb data and a load of minutes and unlimited texts. havent looked at their data offerings but i know they do gigabags from memory.

id mobile (which is Carphone Warehouse's network) do 5GB data, 5000 texts and 500 minutes for £10 a month, 1 month rolling contract.

I use it, not found anything better.

I have used virgin for the last 5 years with no problems at all. Also, you mention 4g, but I believe Their new tariffs are 4g. My mum got one a fortnight ago and it is definitely 4g, and she got double data.

I'm on a rolling monthly £9 p/m with Three for unlimited minutes and texts with 4GB of data - although you may need to sign up for 12 months to get that deal! (I've been with them for years!)

It really comes down to who has the best coverage where you are!

If you are a BT broadband customer their sim only deals are £5 off, they were really good before xmas, also if you get a family sim only deal, savings add up. Before xmas i got unlimited mins + texts 30 gig data for £20 a month (should have been 25) BUT I got £40 quidco and £80 amazon vouchers which means it's £10 a month!!! Can't go wrong for 30gig data tbh, got my missus the same deal and now going to add my parents too on the family sim deal thingy. 12 month contract too.

The Current BT offer is 16GB data (w/extra speed) unl mins and unl txts for £16 a month if you have BT BB, 12 month contract.
£55 amazon voucher or iTunes gift card.
And potential cashback too.

might be worth a look?
