Hi there,

I have a mobile P4 which i would like to use in a desktop.

Is this possible? Would i need a special cooler as there is not metal thing on top.

Thanks.

The P4m will work in many s478 board, ASUS was en example that stopped supporting them after a certain bios revision on the P4C800.
Abit boards have always been o.k with them though.

I have just stripped a P4m3.06 that has been running for the last 3years in an Abit IS7E.
I had a fair few p4m CPU/mainboard combo's and found the best to be with P4P800-e and c1 stepping, but as I mentioned some of the newer BIOS' did'nt support the CPU (beep error)
Abit boards have always seemed to be o.k though. (personaly tested IC7 IS7)

'Bigtoe' had some massive threads on a few fourms about these, this is where I first picked up my information and stepping to search for though:

ahh I see. Do you really need to use that processor? It's very slow and dated....and if it doesn't have a IHS then it will be a bit difficult to get cooled

Not really, have used stock PIV coolers with mobile chips in desktop boards without problems, also just about any screwed down type sink will work fine.
