Guys what MDM solutions are you using?

We have been using IBM Endpoint, but have been having issues with it over the last few weeks to the point it is no longer functioning....

So we are looking for another solution.

Ideally this is something we can deploy on one of our VM's and administrate ourselves.

Most of them do the same thing mate - best to look at costs (licensing and maintenance) if your just after something generic. The limitations are usually on the platform side.

Meraki is now owned by Cisco I believe, who also have their own enterprise product they acquired recently - Airwatch.

There are a couple out there that do specialise in certain fields - for example we use SOTI which specialises with the older enterprise formats WM6.5 and remote control access (but still has WP8.1 and iOS8) support.

you might also want to interface with SCEP servers etc to distribute certificates - things to bear in mind, but most are round and about the same.

AirWatch is definitely a VMware acquisition.

MDM can only be as powerful as the APIs on each platform allows it to be, so essentially all MDM is the same. The differentiators are the platforms they choose to support, the quality of the self-service apps (for requesting Apple VPP app deployments), the support, how quickly the software can react to OS changes on the platforms you are interested in, the cost, and finally the integrations the product has with other systems that you run - like being able to restrict secured Wi-Fi access to enrolled devices, integrations with your existing user directories etc.

yeah my bad - Airwatch is defo owned by VMWare now, a recent transaction. I get mixed up between them and a company called Qolcom who keep bugging me to buy the MobileIron solution even though we already have one in place lol. I think these two have the most irritating sales people, who don't seem to take no for an answer.

oh and before I forget - Airwatch have their own container (which might be a requirement), SOTI have partnered with Excitor (makers of the DME product) and others will probably have their own version if security is a top requirement for email and such other corporate data (allows you to segregate the data from whats on a users personal device and keep it more secure).

If stuff is accessed through an app (a la Good) then I don't really class that as MDM any more. I understand why those sorts of services exist but by the nature of what they do it's always going to present a poorer user experience than the native apps on the device.
