Mobile DTR Processor

from what i can gather there's some problems with Epox s754 boards and DTR/mobile chips. In a nutshell, the factory shipped BIOS doesn't support them, and Epox refuse to release revised BIOS's to support them.

I'm currently waiting on delivery of a s754 mobile 4000+ from the States to go into my Epox 8NPAJ, and reading around there's a trick to getting them work on these boards. Only time will tell whether or not it'll work for me though.

I'm stuggling with mine to be honest. :(

For one thing I can't get my pc4000 ram to run at 250mhz without errors when using 2gb although it's fine with only 1gb in.

I also think it's maxing out around 3ghz but I've not tested it at that speed.

I've went back to stock speed and am slowly working it up and finding the best memory settings at 5mhz intervals.

I might sell my corair ram and get some ocz or g.skill to see if that makes a difference.

unfortunately i'll be running mine on a divider, my corsair tops out at 220mhz so i have no option, plus i'd rather run tight timings on a divider than slacken them off for bandwidth.

You should have no problems then as I don't have any issues with the ram until I get to about 230mhz.

As for high bandwidth vs tight timings I think your as well trying both and using whichever gives the best results in benchmarks.

Hi Meths, i had a problem with a kit of 2gb Gskill HZ PC4000 and that would'nt hit 250mhz either. I put it down to the ram being faulty and sent it back for a full refund but now i am beginning to wonder. My Crucial value 1gb kit will hit 250 easily which is strange to say the least. Have you not got the same mobo as me?

No, I'm using a DFI NF3 250gb.

The thing is IIRC I could hit 250mhz no probs when I was using a 3700+ Clawhammer and even with the 4000 Mobile each module can run in memtest for a full day with no errors.

Also other people with Mobile Athlons (on the DFI Street forum) were having problems when trying to go over 230mhz fsb using 2gb ram but others were hitting 260mhz using only one gig.

You can get round it, but it takes some major messing about with the timings.

I've been thinking of getting my hands on some decent overclocking RAM but i can't really justify the cost given i've just spent money on the 4000 just for the sake of having a new CPU to play with.

*it's left Los Angeles by the way :D
