Got an alienware on the way with this processor, I sold my i7 950 desktop as I need to go mobile, how does this mobile processor fare and compare? Seems faster than my previous 950 on passmark, I can't find any real world comparisons, I just want to know if it will be as good as or if not better for my main purpose, music production, video editing, gaming.

its a very good chip Garry, I have the same laptop as you but with the 2620 and a force 3 ssd instead of your m4 and its rapid, if you were to go crossfire with your 6970 you may want to upgrade to the 2920 as the 2720 would most likely be a bottleneck but with a single card its perfect

im wrong mate...the m18 can be sli/xfired but the r3 cannot, I had a m17x r2 with xfire 5870's and the i7 720 bottlenecked them so I changed it to a i7 920xm and it made such a difference... I just assumed that the r3 would be as capable but it seems the m18x is now the daddy, didn't want to xfire anyway so no harm done

ahh right ill be looking to upgrade my m17 x r3 with a 580 m and 3d screen when i can, or look out for a sick m 18 x, anyway to bump the thread, i still cant find anything comparing mobile cpus against desktops, but the 2720qm on passmark seems to be pally with the i5 2500k
