As title, mate is trying bf2, but unsure if it'll work, OS vista home basic 32bit, some core 2 duo mobile thing, and 2 gb of ram of wich 228 mb for the gfx card.

Can't find the game compatibility list for the GMA945 on intels site.

Nope. It wont.

Edit.

Operating System
Windows XP (32 Bit Version)

- CPU
Battlefield 2 supports the following processors:
Intel Pentium 4
Intel Xeon
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition
Intel Celeron D
AMD Athlon XP
AMD Athlon 64
AMD Athlon 64-FX
AMD Sempron processor

- Minimum Specification:
CPU: 1.7 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500
with 128 Mb of RAM

- Recommended Specification:
CPU: 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 1 Gb
Video Card with at least 256 Mb of RAM

- Video Cards
Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards:
Radeon X700 (PCIe)
Radeon X600 (PCIe)
GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X800 PRO
ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
ATI Radeon 8500 Series
ATI Radeon X300 Series
NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
NVidia GeForce 6800
NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series

And newer Generation cards ie 7900's 8800's 2900's etc

Ohwell.

Don't exgaggerate though, gma 945 last time I checked compatible game list was fully compatible with a lot of after 2004 games ( CoH for example .).
I don't think the cards are THAT bad perhaps 6200 equiv perhaps a bit better, but not that they can't run 2005 stuff.

EDIT:

Shame though: Beefy cpu, enough ram, and then let down by a gfx chip, wich is hard to replace on a lappy.

IGP will run bf2 I think. Ive used ATI IGP before now on bf2.

The main thing to check is what dx version it is and what sm it is. I think sm 1.4 is needed.

I got about 15fps with the ati @ 800x600

I'm not sure about the model you are using but I recall reading somewhere that Intel released new drivers that allowed IGPs to run modern games such as BF2, something to do with the drivers enabling pixel shaders.

Try updating your drivers from the intel site, it's worth a shot.

Its a 4 pipeline chip, so it might be ok for newer games, but Intel's drivers usually let it down, as well as its medicore pixel shader performance.

Okay he tried it and bf2 didnt start, it showed the cd ckeck screen then it disappeared and nothing happened no errors nada, any idea's?
Can it be the drivers?
Could it be Vista?
Does anyone know the link for the ''compatible game list'' made by intel for each graphics chip?

My Macbook is a C2D, 2GB and GMA945 GPU and I've tried lots of games and tbh i would stick with the older games like BF1942, UT, ET, CS 1.6 etc. There's still lots of fun to be had out of older games and laptops arn't really gaming machines anyway.

Yep, I remember reading this to and also watching a video of it running Far Cry and Battle Field2, It looked pretty good considering it was a cheapo intel graphics card.

I think it was some sort of work around they found and was able to get better performance out of it.

Anyone got the link to the site im thinking of ? I would'nt mind watching the video again out of interest.

Why would the ps be disabled, Im thinking they devised a driver emulation of missing hardware protocols and powered it with the cpu.

We tried doing something similar to make bf2 work on a ti4200 and it dropped the fps to about 10.

Ive played bf2 on IGP and on a radeon 8500le. The IGP was unplayable though it displayed everything fine, it could not maintain 20fps and so was in constant lag.

The 8500le will just about pull off a decent game and I played on one for 6 months, sometimes topping my teams scoreboard on a 64 player server.

The last decent IGP I saw manufactured was the stuff that came on the socket A boards like Abit NFS with IGP. That had a real proper geforce 4 card on there, the main lacking was that it used main memory instead of vram otherwise it had all the protocols needed in hardware.
It played CSS just fine, it actually worked better then the newer ATI IGP I had which was supposed to be superior because it has dx9

I doubt that. The Nforce 2 IGP was a Geforce 4 MX core. Even the 9100 Pro IGP was superior for the most part. Now that we have Xpress 1250...

945GMA doesn't support hardware T&L doesn't it? There's a lot of newer games that it just flat out can't handle. :(

no, it does support hardware T&L. everything since Radeon 7000 has supported hardware T&L.

i have a laptop with a C2D mobile proccy and 1GB or ram, but with the aforementioned 945GM chipset. it can't run BF2, it can't run CSS.

it CAN run Homeworld 2 though. (which requires hardware T&L) aswell as simpsons H&R (also T&L)

Vertex shading is still done by the CPU.

Well the ATI IGP I used was on the asrock board, I bought it to use with a pentium 805. I cant remember what series it would have been though

The geforce 4 mx ran css well enough, better then the asrock. I also had one as a standalone card and it ran all sorts well enough, I cant remember if I overclocked but IGP obviously was at stock speeds

Are any of these newer IGP actually proper chipsets or just emulations

They're proper chipsets. The 1250 is based on the Radeon X700 core with half the pipelines. Are you sure you were using up-to-date drivers?

One thing to note however is that the X1250 has no hardware vertex shaders. It is all down to the cpu. It also has no dedicated memory.

However mine in my laptop can run the bf2 demo at 25fps at 1280x800 medium details. Its not playable for me but it can run it.

The 945gm however cannot. Even if it could it would not be fast enough anyway.
