Mobile Modem/Router

The Poynting antenna I tried out was very small. And I managed to find a picture of what's inside, and the antenna in there is probably smaller than what's in my router. So I bought a much larger Chinese unit, that was going cheap on eBay. Only cost £20 which is about 1/5th of its street price. Interestingly, it was far better than the Poynting, so size does count. It's showed about a 6dbi improvement over the internal antenna. I'm in the process of moving it around and testing to see if there is any point in sticking the thing on a pole outside. I might add, this is all just a fun learning experience for me, I am not sure that 6dbi will help all that much, but it's fun to do. :)

I'm tempted to try one of those cheap large noname brand ones but so far my experiments with non-professional antennas shows no improvement or often worse performance than stock - from some rudimentary testing they mostly seem to be WiFi antennas incorrectly sold as 4/5G capable and/or lose more performance than they gain due to the lead length and/or incorrect leads on them for radio use.
