Mobile phone unable to connect to my home network

I was hoping you guys can help me out.

I could never get my N95 8GB working with my wireless home network and put it down to a phone issue but yesterday I received my new phone, a HTC Hero, which doesn't connect either. I have tried changing encryption types, different passwords and even unsecured my network but nothing has worked.

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS.

Does anyone here have any ideas on what the problem might be and how to rectify it?

EDIT: To clarify, I can find my network in the list but I'm unable to connect to it.

Have you checked to see if you have MAC filtering enabled?

I had this problem with my N95 a few years ago. Problem was it doesn't support high levels of wifi security

I'm pretty sure MAC filtering is off and it can't be security because, as I said, I tried disabling the security to no avail.
