Hi guys,

Travelling along the A34 towards Stafford today, there was a mobile safety van. Came around the corner at around 75, and slowed down immeadiatly quite a bit before I went past the van. (Van was what, 200 yards down the road dual carriageway?) The vans back windows were facing me as I went past it... (went past at around 55)

Speed limit is 60.

a) can they get you both ways?
b) whats the distance?
c) I was in the outside lane... any difference?

:(

Luckily, if you can say that... I've been driving for 2 years in feb so at least I've got a 12 point cushion... but im proper skint and can't afford the fine and the insurance hike (what do you reckon it will be?)... 19 (20 at renewal) - named driver on my mums policy.

Cheers

They usally have the camera's in the back window, not sure on how far down the road the van cams measure, would guess arround 100 yards. Looking at 3points and a small fine if you were caught.

Oh, and I forgot to moan in my post.

Completly ridiculous position the van was in. Nice long straight, no issues at all... (why the a34 is 60 is beyond me anyway). That van served no other purpose bar making money. Makes me proper mad - I slammed my brakes on that hard I nearly came off the road. Although thats entirely my fault if i'd of died crashing I guess.

They can lase you from virtually any distance. I got zapped at just over a mile!

The stealth tax scams (sorry safety vans) normally have either a camera from the rear of the van, or the side if placed over a bridge or something. They can normally see quite a way down, mostly they position the scam (sorry van) just around a blind corner, they tend to do this a lot where I am.

I’ve never seen a scam (sorry van) with a camera at the front, AFAIK they mostly get you from the front, as they measure your time and distance from the front, as mostly once you pass a scam (van) you do tend to slow off.

But then again, touch wood I’ve never been done by one (yet) so I honestly cannot tell you if they take you speed after you have passed one.

Edit - Actually I maybe wrong about the time and distance... In fact I think I am. I'm talking rubbish. It's early in the morning.
