I see everyweek the local newspapers website lists all the mobile camera sites in my area, but I guess they are free to move wherever without warning?

Are they allowed to move to area's without speedcamera signs(they are mostly strapped to lamp posts here) or is this entrapment?, static sites seem to have a yellow background, and mobile = blue? There are definitely two colours when it comes to the speedcamera warning signs though.

- PS agw, I seem the coppers with their mobile camera's have a fetish for Broad Lane :p

They don't have to put signs up, but atleast around here there are permanent or temporary signs up around most sites (except on motorways where the signs are not permitted).

I think mobile cameras can only operate from approved sites, so they can't just move anywhere.

mobile speed camera's are usually mounted in transit vans

you can spot the places they usually put them, as there will be layby in the road sometimes with "police use only" where there are speed camera signs

they are only allowed to use them at designated sites however.

for a full list of designated sites, see the web

eg here is leicester's list

http://www.mscp.org.uk/index_LeicesterCameras.html

West Yorkshire even provide statistics about there camera's This one is near to me and utterly pointless

http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.co.uk/fixed-location-stats.htm?camera=51

lovely stats, Camera introduced Feb 2003. Number of people involved in collisions in 2003 - 4. Number of people killed -0. Number of people involved in collisions in 2004 - 7. Number of people killed in 2004 - 0

wow what an improvement

Mobile speed camera sites for the week commencing 29 January are:

Broad Lane Rochdale
Edenfield Road Rochdale
Halifax Road Rochdale
Smithybridge Road Rochdale

I love the way that justification for the scam cams is that they need to be in accident blackspots, it's a pathetic excuse.

 Where do you see them? At the bottom near the Spring Inn or at the top near the Fairview?

That's one of my favourite ragging points
