Hi,
I remember reading a while back that legally, mobile speed cameras have to have their whereabouts listed on a website somewhere.
I was googling last night for the site but couldnt find anything conclusive.

Is that true, and if so, where is the site?

Thanks in advance all. :).

not sure if they have to but they are usually on the individual police forces website

they are not 100% specific, usually a range of dates and a list of locations

I was in Aberdeen a couple of weeks ago and found the next weeks locations listed in the local paper.

Can't say I've seen anything like it over here :(

Wow. Just imagine: the Police could simply announce where they'd be setting up the speed traps, then all the speed merchants could get them into their sat navs and slow down at those places, and there'd be no need to actually have the cameras there; that would save £££.
Of course after a while they'd have to have mobile speed traps going round to make sure the speed merchants really were slowing down in the right places...

BTW BoomAM if you want to know where the Kelsall mobile speed camera parks up, then it usually parks in a layby on the left at the bottom of the Kelsall Bypass (A54).
Well it was aparentely parked in the central reservation at the bottom of the hill, just before it merges back into a single lane...?

Havnt found that CCC's safety camera location stuff to be any use at all.
Looking at the camera schedule, it doesnt say wether there was a camera in that location or not...?

It's utter nonsense, based on a scheme that was phased out years ago and wasn't strictly true even then.

To expand: about eight years ago a scheme was brought in whereby the police were allowed to keep half the fines if the cameras followed certain rules: brightly coloured, obvious placement, positions available to the public etc. But note: the police were perfectly entitled to place the cameras how they wanted, as long as the didn't want the money. But that scheme was wound up about four years ago, and now they don't keep any of it anyway, so anything goes again.
