Ok it seems that if you get a non 'Three' supplied, unlocked phone and use a
'Three' pay as u go sim in it then....
a: if it is a 2g only phone then you are outta luck son
b: if it is a 3g phone (UMTS/HSDPA 2100) it will work on 'Three' but they may block you from using it at some point.
The reason being is that 'Three' dont have their own 2g network which they pay Orange to use theirs - so if they notice that you use 2g services a lot then they will block you as you are costing 'Three' money to use the 2g services, but if you mostly use their 3g services then you may go unnoticed and not have any issues with 'Three' ever - although your mileage may vary.
If you use a non 'Three' supplied, unlocked phone with a
'Three' contract sim then you are outta luck again, you have to use a 'Three' supplied phone with their contract sim unless you want hours of grief with their customer services who won't support this setup.
As far as I can make out, the above is correct if anyone was interested to know
So as much as my wife really wanted the
Samsung B5310 as it appears perfect for her, she has a 'Three' contract sim so settled for the
Samsung s5600 which she picked up last night from the 'Three' store near her
