Hi all,

some advise please if you will.

Back in the day (2-3 years ago) i built a rig that had literally nothing onboard, and pci'd stuff like sound, lan, modem etc, and obviously AGP gfx. The system ran far better and faster than any other system i'd built, even with the same cpu that i'd built other rigs with. I put it down to quality 'individual' parts and not 'on-board' stuff. Can't even remember the board make now

Now, when i build my new conroe based rig, i was thinking about maybe doing the same thing.
BUT, do you think there is as much a difference now? Or shall i just plump for one of the many all-inclusive boards that OCUK rave about?
Are there any components you suggest NOT having on-board, ie. 8 channel sound etc.

Your thoughts, as always are appreicated.

The only area where onboard is severely lacking is graphics, though you do get them with on board graphics, they're next to useless for high end gaming.

Everything else onboard these days is normally of a perfectly acceptable standard.
