MOBO and Chip compatability check

I'm a bit out of touch these days with the different chipsets, 940 etc. I am planning this kit:

Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 AMD 770 Socket AM2+ 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

I think it is all compatable, but I'm confused as the Mobo says it's AM2, yet AMD 770, and the chip is I think socket 940.

Can anyone advise if the above will all work together please before I go and order it? I'm almost sure it will, but just want to double check please.

770 is the chipset, Socket AM2 has 940 pins.

Yes it's all compatible.

However, if you will be gaming then I strongly recommend an Intel setup and overclocking it.

As the guy above said, Socket AM2 has 940 pins but by being called AM2 you can tell it is not the older AMD server socket 940.

Again as said above AMD 770 is the chipset, not the socket. I don't mean this in a bad way, only as a suggestion of caution, but it would probably be a good idea for you to do more research before you buy anything... I don't know for sure but if I was 100% going AMD Dual Core, I'd think an X2 5000+ Black Edition is likely to offer me more than an X2 6000+ will.
