Hello,

I am finally swapping my i5 2500k setup for a 2700x based X370 system. I have replaced everything apart from my GTX 1070 and Samsung SSD which I am keeping to add to the new build (I am getting old and have to stick to budgets now)

I bought windows 7 Home Premium back in 2011 with the above system. I got the free upgrade to windows 10 a couple of years ago. The sticker on the back of the O/S states that it is Windows 7 Home Premium OEM software.

I had been under the impression that I might be able to transfer the above license, but have received conflicting advice. I don't really want to shell out another £100+ for a license.

Is it possible to transfer my license across? And any tips on the best way to configure this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Make sure everything important is backed up and try it. What's the worst that could happen?

If you fail to get it activated there's a very good chance that if you install a clean version of Windows 10 and enter your Windows 7 key it'll work. I've done this successfully with several PCs over the last 6 months.
