I've just been looking at various components, and it's been awhile since I've upgraded anything so I would say that I'm kinda out of the loop abit. :p
So what could I get for around about £200? As I put in the title I was looking at a Mobo / CPU / RAM combination. I mostly use the PC now for web and abit of photo editing.

Currently running an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ with 2Gb ram so I imagine most new hardware will be faster than this? :o

Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and suggest you're looking at the wrong components to upgrade.I can't see the new mobo / ram and cpu will show any improvement in the areas you've mentioned.

Not only this, but for anything more than 3gb of ram you'd need to upgrade your operating system too as xp 32bit won't recognise anything more than this.

How about a new monitor instead? Depending on what you have already this will make a big difference, especially in photo editing. What do you have at the moment?

I know this is your money and of course you can spend it on whatever you choose...I just can't help feeling it'd be a waste :D

Thanks for that spec there stulid, it looks pretty good! Plus I can knock that £9 off the postage seen as I can go and get it from the shop.

Well I've always upgraded my systems in bits so I thaught that upgrading these 3 components would benefit me more now. The rest of my current PC includes Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, GeForce 9600GT, LG Bluray drive, couple of SATA 250Gb HDDs and a 22" Hyundai N220W monitor.

Seems like another good one to consider, I won't have any issues with my power supply on either of these new motherboards will I? I'm using a 425Watt Hiper PSU.

I'm just looking at this Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H AMD 880G motherboard again, the picture shows that it has an additional 8-pin connector for power? Any particular reason for this? My PSU doesnt have an 8-pin either so this may be a problem!
All of the other cheaper AM3 boards only seem to have the 4-pin connector.

this is CPU power, depends on what processor you have, it is probably to sopport the power demands of the AMD x6 range, i would either consider a different motherboard or replace the power supply.

Ah right well as I said most of the other cheaper boards are 4-pin, so I'll probably be looking at the biostar or something like that then.

You can still use the 4pin PSU connector in the 8pin motherboard connector.

That motherboard is now on special offer, save an extra £10.

I did seem to recall doing something similar with an older PSU, so thats good to know.
The memory is also on offer this week but the CPU has gone up in price. :p Pretty sure I'll be going with that now anyway so thanks for the advice! :)

Edit : Actually one last question, is it worth salvaging my AC Freezer 64 Pro and using that with the new CPU? If it will still fit that is.
