Ok I've been asked to recommend and source (will be here) a new motherboard, processor and for the love of all things holly I still don't know why... 16gb of memory. The computer will be used for internet browsing, emailing, some photo editing and no gaming. Budget... not been mentioned so cheaper the better, within reason.

Cheers :)

No gaming? Rough guide of budget?

Yes mate no gaming, it's for a pensioner. Budget hasn't been mentioned but he has stated he would like something faster and doesn't mind paying for it... I know, I go back and say how much and get the "Whaaaaaaaaat how much?!"

Budget shall we say bang for buck? Gulp

Well you could go for 8Gb of RAM instead of 16Gb. No need for that much RAM given what the PC will be used for.

Pricier option ---> Go for either a i5 2500k or i5 3570 depending on budget and then pair up with an appropriate motherboard.

Cheaper option ---> i3 CPU and appropriate motherboard.

Cheers Sliver and thank you triggerthat, that gives me something to go back with now :)

He was positive about wanting 16gb memory and like I said in first post I really don't know why, but you just can't argue. Thanks again :)

What about something like this then Jester? an Ivybridge i5 if he wants it...... with matching chipset should give him everything he wants. but the old Sandybridge i3's and H61 are about £100 cheaper.
