Hi,

Looking to upgrade a PC for a friend, currently running an old (AM3) dual core chip. (Approx 5 years old)

He has recently upgraded his Ram, meaning he has DDR3 1866mhz 2x8gb sticks.

He is after a new Mobo and CPU, ideally a budget of around £200, and was wondering if anything had any ideas of the best ?

Looked at something like this, just want to make sure they should ideally be "Plug and Play" without any compatibility issues, or better choices out there ?

Thanks in advance for any help people can provide !

Does he need SLI or Xfire? If not, then this Gigabyte board should also be good.

My dad's got the FX-6300 and it's actually pretty decent. It outperformed my i5 on Photoshop!

As for Intel, you could probably afford an i3 (2 cores, 4 threads) but I'm not sure if that's a good idea:

Hi Borealis,

No, he is not a hardcore gamer or editor at all. He runs just a standard Geforce GTX 660 so nothing Flash. Generally stick with AMD, only reason is just loyalty (as sad as it seems)
