Hi OC

I think my mobo is dead but not 100% sure.
Here is what happen.

My pc was restarted on and off the last five days or so then last night I could smell burning though was not sure.

I then put my pc back on and smoke started come from my cpu cooler near the cpu end around the rubber part of it only not the socket.

There are no burn marks anywhere on the mobo etc but there is also no beep after removing all parts one by one.

So is it the mobo and can a faulty mobo cause the cpu cooler to burn out or is it the cooler or cpu.

Thanks in advance if someone has a idea of the problem.

Specs
fx 8350
1200w psu
2x r290s
UD5 gigabyte mobo
kraken x60 cooler

for future reference, if you smell burning: Dont just "turn it back on" afterwards, just RMA it. Smoking, and burning on anything electronical isnt good and is a MAJOR sign something is wrong.

Chances are the motherboard is dead if there is no sign of life, it might of taken the CPU and other componants with it but thats hard to say without testing and looking at it. Depends what the issue was.

Would the mobo cause the cpu cooler to heat up and smoke I mean is it ok to use it again do you think.

Edit
With a new mobo.

OK i'm pulling my hair out here.

I got a new cpu and motherboard and now no post everything seems to be working no red leds etc.

I've plugged a hdmi into my tv with no signal though not sure if one needs to be in windows to set that up.

There was a boot device red led but that's gone now.

I've tried two gpus still no joy, Two different ram brands.

I'm lost.

The boot error has just come back I have unplugged all sata cables and still no post.

What is this boot device led? Is my ram not compatible?

Some one help out please who knows their stuff.

Did you remove the plastic cover on the CPU cooler when you installed it?
Have you checked your PSU isn't the cause? Smoke travels and it may be this.

I check all that.

I also looked that my ram is compatible.

Tried to connect hdmi to my laptop with no joy.

PSU is spinning fine.

It is a new pc new mobo and cpu to the first above posts.

I will try a gpu in another pcie slot.

Nothing from a change in slots

There are two beeps though one squeaky loud and one mild just after I'm not sure what this means.

I have tried with no joy.

Also just found out that the vga led lights up than a beep and same with device boot red light and beep.

Based on what you mention in the first post I think the same may have happen to my MPower motherboard :(

Upon inspecting, it looks like something underneath the vrm has blown, I'll have to RMA mine soon :(
