Allright, tried posting this question in the General Hardware forum but no replies yet, so thought I'd try here. I'm on the market for a s1155 motherboard. No preference on chipsets as I don't care about the SSD features on Z68, but I would like Ivybridge support for the future.

My most important requirements are the following:
a. lots of back-panel USB ports (at least 6, preferably 10)
b. a PS/2 port (still using a PS/2 keyboard, don't feel like going hunting for an adapter)
c. on-board Power and Reset buttons (very useful for when you're building outside the case!)
d. an ACCESSIBLE CMOS clear jumper (or button) - and by "accessible" I mean not located next to the PCI-Ex16 slot please, don't feel like having to remove my graphics card every time I need to clear the CMOS!
e. a front-panel group-plug included in the box, just cause my fingers are too fat and clumsy to plug the fiddly little front panel case connectors onto the motherboard when it's already installed in the case - I actually need pliers!

OK, I guess the only ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED features from the above are a., b. and c., but all of them would be nice! :)

The only mobo I know that has all this is the MSI P67A-GD53. It also has the added benefit of being about £50 cheaper than most boards I see recommended for SB builds on here. The question is though, how does it do in the overclocking game? Is it fast and stable, or am I better off going for something else?

I was tempted by the Asus, I notice that the P8Z68V has on-board power switches, but it doesn't seem to have a PS/2 port. I thought I had a little adapter somewhere, if I can find it then it's an option.

Ive been investigating mbs for a couple weeks now - the z68 chipset ones that is. Looking to upgrade my aging q6600 chip/mb

anyways ...

I know what you mean about being picky ... heck

Im looking for something that also accepts a ps2 keyboard ...
Ill tell you the boards that caught my eye so far ...

asrock fatality, asrock 4 gen 3, asus p8z68 ...

now the fatality and asus deluxe version have the keyboard input but also cost more then their lower siblings ... also the deluxe asus has a lot of ports since they do away with the video out features on the board (err who would hook up a monitor directly to the mb if you running a fancy mb in the first place? ...

extreme 4 gen 3 has the ps2 and clear cmos but dont see a power/reset button on the mb.

Thanks for that, I'll definitely investigate those and report back! I was looking to spend £120 or less tbh, as I want this for everyday use rather than extreme overclocking, which seems to be the main point of the >£150 ones. So far the MSI P67 one I mentioned in the OP seems to be the only one that has everything I want and is cheap. I've had MSI boards before, they're certainly not the top manufacturer but they're fairly reliable, and I'm not convinced I would see massive overclocking gains from the others.

Last time I checked was July when I was building my dad's new computer, and back then the P67 ones were noticeably cheaper. Now the Z68 boards have come down in price as well, but I still don't think I need one. I don't do much video encoding (hell, even my current C2D is fast enough for the little encoding I do!), and if I ever get an SSD it'll be bigger than 64GB so I don't think I'll use the caching features.

Thought I'd share my findings. Doesn't the forum have a table function?

mobo ps2 on-board price front panel usb rear
power buttons group connector
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 1 yes 160
asrock P67 Extreme6 2 yes 150 ?
MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 yes yes 118 y
MSI P67A-G45 1 no out of stock y
MSI P67A-GD65 1 yes 118 ? 8
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 yes no ? 10
Asus P8Z68-V LX yes no n 6
Asus P8Z68-V PRO no yes 150 ? 8
Asus P8P67 PRO 2 no 27 y 8
asus p8z68-v no yes y
Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 2 no
Asus P8P67 2 no

I wasn't very thorough as you can see, didn't bother to dig up the price for mobos that didn't have my other requirements :) But what can be clearly seen by the above table is the following: Asus stick features on their boards seemingly at random.

What can also be seen is that only the two Asrock boards and the MSI P67A-GD65 have both PS/2 ports and on-board power/reset buttons. (Of boards in-stock at OCUK anyway)

EDIT: Forum screwed up my layout, I'll link to the spreadsheet later.
