Hi all just looking for advice befor i start looking to replace. I updated my bios the other day which i knew was risky but i have done it 2/3 times in the past with no problems but this time my pc is not working. All fans spins, lights are on seems normall but i get no monitor signal in my new graphics card and also the onboard. I have switched ram slots and tried one at a time ive also cleared cmos with jumpers and also the battery the processor gets warm so im wondering if its the motherboard. I have also tried 2 monitors and my old and new graphics card. Because the onboard aint working thats what makes me think my motherboard has gone as also the pc dosent beep with ram in or out also. Does this sound like the motherboard has gone?

do you hear any sound off it like its attempting to boot, usually just a single beep.

also, what mobo is it ?

Its a p8z68-v lx, and no beeps. Fans spin, leds are on but thats about it.

also i aint sure if its normal as the plug is switched on but when i put the power cord in it makes electrical crackling noises. The PSU has been fine running the pc but it has always made high pitched buzzing noises when theres power in the system probs a noisey coil tho. But as i updated bios thats what makes me think the motherboard has gone.

If you're plugging the kettle lead into the PSU with power on then that's probably gonna happen :P

Yea but i aint sure if i done it right, i moved the cmos jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 but do i do it when the pc is on or off? i did it when it was off then switched them back to normal then powerd on the pc. I also removed and re inserted the battery.

Turn the PC off switch off at PSU if possible or wall but leave plugged in for earth. then move jumper, sounds like you got it right though. Did you move it back :)

yea switched back. it powers up like normall but no screen signal or beeps. no signal in 2 graphics cards and the onboard with 2 monitors. i updated to latest bios pc rebooted to a screen with no signal. was working fine befor i updated. ive tried switching ram slots, 1 stick at a time, cpu gets warm, all fans spin, mobo led is on etc.

Should always be off!
You need to move the jumpers then power on.

How long did you leave the battery out for? Leave it out for a few minutes.. 5 to be safe I would suggest.

when i moved jumpers from 1-2 to 2-3 pc wont boot so i guess thats normall? i left them on 2-3 for a couple of mins befor puttign back then powerd on. The battery i left out for 2-3mins befor replacing and powering up.

Well it's possible that you've bricked your board :(

Have you tried the obvious stuff like making sure all your hardware is seated correctly? ( I'm hoping for you here :D )

Just out of interest, what is the PSU and how old is it?

Its a Corsair Builder Series CX 500W V2 '80 Plus'. Ive had it for a few months now but since i got it i have got a new case and a graphics card a Zalman Z11 case and a Radeon 6850 GPU.

Just left out the battery for 10mins and also put the cmos jumpers to pin 2-3 for 10mins still no luck, so would it be the motherboard?

Looks like i will replace my mobo, should i get another P8Z68-V LX or Asrock Z68 PRO3 Gen3.

DONT!!! just look for the tiny bios chip and pull it out carefully

then order a new one off fleabay, but tell them you want one with the previous bios version on it not the one you just flashed to,then plug new bios chip in and away you go

cost about a tenner

another thing to try is leave mb battery out overnight, sometimes it needs longer, try reseating graphic card aswell

look on asus website for previous bios versions but make double sure you have right bios for your mb model

I pulled the bios chip out as you suggested now waiting for replie from someone about bios version, i will try replace bios chip see if that works befor forking out on a new mobo, cheers.

it should work if all youve done is flash the bios, maybe it got corrupted ect
