My somewhat old PC was working absolutely fine last night and this morning. Turned it off and came back this afternoon and now it won't power on.

Motherboard has power as far as I can tell. There are power and reset buttons on the board itself that light up. However, when I press the power button on the board or the case power button nothing happens. No lights, no fans... nothing.

I've tried disconnecting devices, removing RAM, resetting CMOS jumper, re-seating power connectors and all the other usual troubleshooting steps.

Motherboard died of old age?

Asus P5Q-E
Core2Duo @ 4ghz
4GB DDR2
Corsair HX 520W psu

Thanks.

I tried the method above, with a staple instead, and it seems to be a dead PSU. Final test is to use my flatmate's PSU and test if it turns on.

I cant remember if the psu has a active fan control, did place a fan on one of the Molex connectors.

In saying that, trying another psu as you mentioned is the best bet :p

Well it seems to work with another PSU which happens to also be a Corsair HX520. Looks like I need to get a new one! Could have been worse I suppose.

Thanks for your help.

Actually, the question now is what is the best value PSU? I'm not in the market for a computer upgrade right now but it'd be good to get a PSU that doesn't require upgrading soon down the line if I decide to build a new rig.
