A few days ago, I upgraded my system from an aging xp3200+ to a funky new E6600. This has all gone smoothy, except for 1 problem.
The new mobo (Gigabyte 645p DS3) has only got 1 PATA port. And i have 4 PATA devices: 2 HDDs (1 is the windows HD) 2 CD/DVD-RW drives. Im prepared to drop down to 1 optical drive, however this leaves me with 1 HDD. Now Ive tried using a PATA-SATA adapter, its a bit old and i dont think its working, since it did work at all. If I install a PCI PATA card, everything is fine, untill I try booting with a drive attached to it. The system refuses to boot into windows, freezing just after the BIOS screen.
My system Specs are :-
E6600
Gigabyte 645P DS3
2 gig of ram
1x 160GB Maxtor HDD (PATA)
1x 120GB Seagate HDD (PATA)
1x 250GB Western Digital (SATA)
1x Liteon CDRW (PATA)
1x Liteon DVDRW (PATA)
Silicon Image 0680 PCI Raid card
Sound Blaster Aud 2
Nvidia 8800 GTS video card
Windows XP Pro
Nothing is overclocked. The system is fine apart from this small problem.
Currently the 120 boot drive is sharing the PATA lead with the DVD-RW drive. The 160GB drive isnt being used.
I dont want to go out and get a new SATA DVD drive or buy a new SATA HDD. Im sure there is a way of solving this, without resorting to getting new gear.
Any thoughts on how to solve this?
