My query is in 2 parts. Firstly I attempted a Bios flash on my MSI P67 last night and you can probably guess where I'm going with this.
It seemed to flash alright then it restarted and has ever since been cycling through startup. It will power on for literally a second then off, repeating this until I remove the power.

I have tried a CMOS clear, changed the jumpers around and removed the battery overnight but it does not appear to have done any good.

Firstly is there any hope for my board?

Secondly, if the answer to Q1 is no, are there any boards around the £80 mark that anyone could recommend? Should I just go with another P67 or move up to Z77?

Any help would be very much appreciated and the sooner the better. If I need a new board I will buy tonight.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried stripping everything back to basics - e.g. just board+1 stick of ram + Video card, + keyboard: no hard drives, no other usb devices, no lan etc.

Quick google seems to come across as being a fairly common problem with this board, possibly to do with the ram settings changing to unsuitable defaults that stop the board even posting. Test with 1 stick of RAM (assuming you have 2 or more), try it in different slots. If you have a different brand of RAM available in another machine then try that e.g. more basic and standard rather than anything special for overclocking.

If you can get into the BIOS with different ram, then you should be able to manual set the memory settings to something suitable for your proper ram.

I would recommend moving up to a Z77 as the P67/Z68 boards are not much cheaper if they are still available. If you are still happy with MSI (and don't need any classic PCI slots) then the Z77A-G45 should fit the bill, otherwise the recommended board around here is the Gigabyte Z77-D3H, both are between £80 and £90.

Hi Armageus. Thanks for the reply. Just tried the stripped basic approach there and still no joy. I'm also just after testing the PSU in another unit just to make sure it's not that but it fired up first time :(

Unless there are any more words of wisdom out there it seems it's shopping time tonight.

To be fair if I have to shell out then grand, but I'd be a bit peeved if there was a fix for the current board.

Ah well...

Thanks for the help guys. Stulid, I scoured my shopping history and receipts for where I bought the board until I eventually found the box and it was in pretty bad shape then I remembered it must have been bought from <insert internet auction site here>.

Still had no luck fixing it but it had a pretty decent innings, 18 months or so, so just decided to buy a new mobo.

Thanks to Armageus for suggestions, I bought the Gigabyte Z77-d3h and I only got the rig rebuilt and switched on last night but the board seems very good indeed. The bios/efi is very user friendly.

Hopefully all should be well now!
