Got myself a nice new asus p5k after my evga disaster!

got this lovely board out the box and set it up on y desk, worke fine well turned on and ask for drivers n that

installed in my case and now nothing!! wont even power on, what could possibly be being done wrong that would cause this!! im devastated!

static shock? i doubt it tbh the likelyhood of that is like 1% isnt it? anyway doesnt rubber soled shoes earth you? it worked when i got it, just when i installed it into my case it broke, thsi ah happende before with and evga board like 4 times over!

aint got anuva board to test it on! i doubt it is though its only what 7 months old and also an antec so pretty solid! spose i could use a multimeter rite?

Finally got some power to the board woooo, short lived though only the green led lights up, signalling power!

try to turn the thing on and noting, no fans no lights just the green power led on the board!

is it dead or something i need to do?

Make sure you rub yourself with a balloon to rub off all that static too!

bet everyone tells you your funny dont they :o

i thought that rubber soles earthed you like cars, but after reserach then cars have special film stripes built into them to earth the car!. clever!:D

guess all builds will be taking place in my uni kitchen form now on hehe lucky my house next year got lamenate flooring

If you are trying to not get struck by lightening, in a car or elsewhere, the insulation is what you need. Rubber shoes, rubber tyres, etc, stop the electricity from flowing to/from the ground & sky.

With PC components, you want the opposite i.e. the electricity to flow out of you to the ground without flowing through the PC components. So anything that (a) generates static on you (think nylon, polyester clothing such as fleeces) or (b) insulates you from the ground (like rubber shoes) will be bad as it will help charge flow into something metal you happen to be touching, like, say ... a motherboard

Radiator pipes or PC case (when the kettle plug is plugged in) will earth you.

cheers thanks for the advice! loveing the html style opening and closing of 'physics mode' hehe :D

kettle plug  looks like naked building in my kitchen then hehe sure my flat mates gonna love that all 10 of em hehe

it is indeed, on here anyway, the amount of people who posts pics of their builds are shoe-less and/or wearing boxers or a pair of shorts most probably. then there are the weird ones who are wearing socks but no trousers

your seriouisly kidding right? no! if only id known before maybe i wouldnt be 5 motherboards down lol
