I had recently bought an opty 170 to replace the athlon 64 3500 in my setup.

I was running on an msi k8n neo4 platinum and 4 x 512mb corsair 3200xlpro ram. no matter what I did I couldn't get the opty to boot into windows above 250 x 10. I knew there must be more in the cpu and ram, so I splashed out on an asus a8n sli premium. the difference is outstanding. straight away I can run 270 x 10 rock solid. I haven't tried any further yet, but I'm confident I can get more :D
on another plus there is no northbridge fan on the a8n sli premium, so the rig is much quieter too

You likely won't get more than about 270MHz out of the A8N to be honest, DFI are the kings when it comes to hitting stable speeds at 300MHz+, any of their NF4 boards should be able to do hit those speeds.
