Hi, going for a system upgrade, this one just doesn't seem to cut the mustard anymore!

Current Specs

Cpu: P4 3.0ghz 1mb
GFX: Gainward 6800 Ultra
Mem: 1gig ocz 3200
Sound Card: Audigy 2

Been a good system for about 2 years now, but what can £1100 get me in line of a new supreme machine!
Already got a decent case/monitor/mouse/speakers/keyboard/hdd's and the rest.

Just need advice on mem/mobo/graphics/cpu

The machine will be used for gaming/vid editing/graphics and a wide variety of things.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and help me!

If your current spec is AGP then you'll need an ATX2.0 PSU. Anyway, the above spec is one of the best you can get for the money, but i'd drop the 4800+ down to a 4400+, as the 4800+ is only 200MHz more but over £100 more expensive, not worth it IMO.

Wouldn't it be better getting 2 Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GT 512MB GDDR3 Graphics Card and running them in Sli? adds another £70 to the videocard budget, but would there be a big difference?

You'll probably need a new PSU with that, something like a Tagan modular 530W. Don't need a SLI mobo either as it's unlikely you'll SLI. You can also save some cash and go X1900XT - the difference between the 7900 and 1900 is Marginal at best. End of the day going 4400X2, non-SLI mobo, X1900XT and the Tagan PSU will leave you in budget with a good system.

i doubt u would get a big boost as the 7800gt is not on par to the 7900gtx which is much better, would also look at the x1900xtx as both these cards are good.

i would suggest the opteron 170 or 175 depending if u will stretch the budget a bit, will oc much further.

This will be the best for your budget, I would also suggest selling your ram and upgrading to a 2gb kit of the same.

With that cooler you should be able to get the Opty to between 2.8 and 3ghz :D

Just some questions to help nobby:

I thought the opty 170 oc's better than the 175? please clarify?

also how much diff is there between these two coolers:

1) FG-000-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£15.95 £15.95

2) Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower (Socket 939/754/478/775) CPU Cooler (HS-015-ZA)

I thought the latter was better? again please verify...
