I have an MSI 915p/g combo motherboard.
All of the sudden, I lost my sata hdd. I boot off an ide and the sata is my 2nd hard drive with all of my real space taking things on it. I was loading something off of it, and then my pc froze. Upon restart, I no longer have a D drive!
I know it could be my drive, but it seems unlikely because the CMOS screen never mentions it.
Also, when I boot my motherboard into the CMOS, it takes foooorever to respond to my keystrokes. So it is very hard messing with options to try and get the mobo to see the sata hdd again.
Things I have tried:
1. Reconnecting everything (ram, all hdds, cables, etc.)
2. Changing sata port.
3. Removing sata drive altogether. (Note: still have slow CMOS reaction time)
4. Clearing CMOS. Posted really fast then! But upon restart back to normal.
Current CMOS readings:
Primary IDE primary / slave: None
Secondary IDE DVD burner / DVD drive
Tertiary IDE: HDD (IDE w/ windows on it)
I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the dvd burner / dvd drive are connected to IDE slot 1 and showing up as Secondary IDE. That makes the HDD the tertiary (connected to IDE slot 2) and maybe it stops looking from there?
I am at a loss on what to do next. Any one have suggestions or have had some kind of problem like this? The very slow CMOS menu navigation is what really scares me.
