Hi, last time I upgraded my mobo from Asus to MSI I didn't prepare my os drive for the new board, therefore windows wouldn't recognise the new board and I had to reinstall windows. At the time I only had the one drive for everything and it sort of screwed things up for me.

This morning my MSI mobo went pop when I switched it on and I'm now having to do an early upgrade of both mobo and cpu. Once again I've not prepared my os drive for the new mobo (either Asus or Gigabyte I haven't decided yet), this time through no fault of my own. Is there anything I can do to avoid having to reinstall windows?

Thanks for your time

AJ

what chipset is the old and new mb? (z77 z87 z97 ect)

usually windows will sort out any needed drivers

The old MSI board was the Z77 MPower Big Bang mobo, the new one will be a Z97 Asus Maximus Hero or the Gigabyte Z97 Black Edition UD5H...
