Mobo/Processor problem?

I've encountered a bit of a problem with the Mobo (Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68).

Put my PC together (grounding strap and precautions taken) when I received all the parts today. Booted it up, but got no display on my monitor (HDMI, 2 monitors etc). The CPU LED was a solid red through out, I have removed the parts to the bare minimum, swapped RAM around and removed the PCI-E. There are no beeps at all to indicate a problem, just a solid red light. Both fans are running fine on the GPU, and the fan on the heatsink/processor is also running fine. I left it running for <5 minutes and then took it off, inspected my processor and it wasn't even slightly hot nor was the thermal paste that comes with the processor melted.

I am not sure if it is the MOBO or the Processor, but sounds like the Mobo due to the persistent red light. Processor wasn't forced in, and I can't see any (could try provide pictures if needed) bent pins.

Have put this in, and I'm going to have someone look at it tomorrow.

Specs

Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz

Where abouts on the motherboard would that be? The only part on the motherboard that matches it is marked "eatx12v".

Plugged that in and still same problem.

Having another problem now, the DRAM LED is lighting up red. Have pressed "mem ok" and the RAM is placed correctly in the slots. Put the graphics card back in, but can't get anything up (its plugged in HDMI). Mem ok just seems to have the red light blinking mad.

Just seen the build guide there, sorry. Will follow that now, last time I built a PC was five years ago and I thought it'd be like riding a bike

EDIT - Still same problem with the RAM, and a red light on the DRAM LED.

mem ok only does a "soft reset" of the cmos. Clear the cmos with the onboard jumper or briefly pop out the battery while the system is disconnected from power.

See where that gets you.

Slight problem again now, was booting to bios yesteday os went to bed shortly after to pick up this afternoon.

applied some arctic silver 5 to the processor. and the cpu led is coming on, this was before i applied the gel too. once or twice it has gotten to the boot led (no boot device yet) before turning off again, no display either. hadn't touched anything from yesterday.

Left it for 15 minutes and it seems to be booting to bios again...

And now same problem. I can get to the BIOS boot screen sometimes, then I reset and the CPU Led is lighting up, the LED temperature (I assume for processor) is at 0C then computer switches itself off.

Not sure what is happening.

Scrapped a bit of the thermal pasting off the processor and seemed to fix the problem..
