Hi Guys,

I have a Dell XPS 710 which is playing up, tried changing Mobo and PSU to no avail so I've given up on that idea and plan to use parts from it to build another PC.

I have the following components -

2 x NVIDIA P455 GeForce 7900 GS 256MB - with the link for the two cards
1 x DELL Ageia PhysX PCI Accelerator XPS (Not sure whether this is needed in a new PC)
1 x Creative Labs Soundcard
1 x XPS700 CORE 2 DUO PROCESSOR E6 (Not sure exact chip?)

So I would need the following components -

Motherboard suitable for above
CPU Cooler
Ram
Case
SSD
PSU

Not looking to spend mega money on this really, but ideally make it usable for Siemens NX and football manager.

Thanks,
Mark

Searching on the site, it doesn't seem OC sell Socket 775 motherboards anymore, and unsure how good the 2 x 7900GS would be compared to one newer card.

Could be cheaper just to buy all new components I guess.

What's your max budget? The cards won't be very good. Best to go for a new PC. What games do you play?

I will be running Siemens NX, Football Manager and I'd like the ability to play other games not necessarily on high settings but so longs they can run.

Budget wise I'm not sure really, was looking around the £300-£400 for the parts I needed to makeup a PC using the components I had.

1 x PowerColor Radeon R7 265 Dual-X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £99.95
1 x Intel Core i3-4130 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £85.99
1 x Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 3.5" 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DX001) SSHD Hybrid Drive £58.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x Asus H81M-E Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £39.95
1 x SuperFlower Amazon 300W "80 Plus Bronze" Power Supply £29.99
1 x Zalman T1U3 Mini-Tower USB 3.0 - Black £20.99
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-14 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £11.99
1 x OcUK Tech Labs Zaward OEM 120mm Golf Ball Fan £2.59
Total : £419.93 (includes shipping : £11.25).

just slightly above budget by £20ish.
in return you get a i3 with hyperthreading + amd radeon 265
yes, the processor is not overclockable, but it'll be more than sufficient for your use
also specced a hybrid sshd which will give a boost to general system snappiness compared to a bog standard hdd
all in a micro atx case

Ps: processor and sshd out of stock, give ocuk a mail/call to find out when they're back in stock (shouldnt be too long)
pps: you get free shipping so it's actually < £10 over budget ;p

Thanks for another option there! Will the 300w PSU be man enough for the Graphics card etc?

HDD wise I'd like to go for an SSD for main drive, so reading up I think the MX100 should be the one to go for? I've got spare 2TB hard drives here I can use for games/storage. Also I don't need a DVD/CD Drive.

Forgot to say I'd like this to be a quiet PC as it'll be in a bedroom so on the above spec I imagine it would advisable to change the 120mm fan to something like

Antec TrueQuiet 120 120mm Case Fan
Aerocool Dark Force Fan - Black - 120mm
Silverstone 120mm Fan AP122 1200RPM Air Penetrator

One last thing, would I gain much by spending another £100, so upto around £500? I haven't kept up with PC technology at all really, the last 'gaming' PC I had was a AMD Athlon XP 2800+!

Thanks

the 300w psu will be enough to run this spec

yes the crucial mx100 256gb ssd would be the best bang for buck ssd

the corsair af series would be better

yes £500 quid will be even better

The Amazon PSU's aren't great, fairly cheap internals and look naff tbh - can get better units for a few £ more

Also forgot to point out that the 2400Mhz RAM won't be supported by the H81 chipset, so better to get 1600Mhz RAM with a tighter latency.

Upped to an i5 (quad core), R9 270, 2400Mhz RAM with a mobo which is capable of taking it, great quiet PSU

sure, find me a 1600mhz set that is cheaper than the 2400 c11 that was specced ;p it's not as if you can't run the 2400 c11 at 1600 c9 or even c8 lol

Thanks for another spec, I'm trying to figure one out from the options given. How do I post it up like you guys have?

Thanks, looking at all the specs above, I've kind of worked them together to get the following 2 options. Please let me know if any of the components won't be suitable with eachother.

The first one will be best though spend the extra few quid and get the 256gb MX100 SSD. 128 isn't really enough.
