I have an Am2+ Motherboard with a 4 pin input but i want to get a new motherboard with crossfire support it has 8 pin input is it a possibility that i can use the 4 pin as ive heard in some places as long as it gives the right power through the lead it would be fine?

Is there any adaptor I would need to get etc.

Otherwise I may need to get a new powersupply just because of a single lead not being compatable when the psu itself is absoloutly fine for everything else.

You can plug a 4 pin PSU plug into an 8pin motherboard socket (consult the manual as to which 4 pins you plug it into - some require you plug it into the middle four and others require the top or bottom 4).

However, the reason why motherboards have 8 pin sockets is to supply more power to the cpu, so dont expect it to work when you drop a 140w cpu in and overclock the living bejebus out of it.

This is on one of my older rigs its runing a AMD 9850BE Phenom.

So the actualy power usage from wont change so im assuming as long as i put the cable in right i should have no issues?

Bah
