i've got a hero maximus VIII mobo in a NZXT H440 case.

the case came with 3x120mm fans in the front and 1x140mm in the back.

how do i turn off the case fans?

in the mobo bios, qfan control says 'fan off' in the options for the three front fans but it is greyed out?

i want to have TWO options, if possible.

one profile for browsing and watching videos, so i don't really need four case fans on the go, as even they intrude on videos playing quitely at night.

a second profile with all the four fans on for gaming!

how do i go about this?

i think your case has the built in fan hub behind the motherboard just check to be sure but if it has you'll need to install CAM software within windows, you'll have access to the fan rpms and be able to control them to your liking.

hears a link to the cam software page

https://www.nzxt.com/camapp

failing that plug all the fans into the motherboard headers and setup control via the bios if that's your thing

EDIT: just looked now and your case should have the fan hub, but it has no way to be controlled as the input source is 12v only, for control of the fans you'll need to plug them into the motherboard and have the bios control them which can be done easily enough

i tried the asus software for fan control (AI Suite III), but setting up a custom fan test didn't reveal any knowledge of extra fans.

i tried CAM, and that didn't mention extra cooling apart from the cpu fan.

feels like a bloody x-file! (they can't move on their own :)

as i said earlier the included fan hub with that case only runs of a molex 12v header, if you've plugged into that hub you wont have any control of the fans unless they are plugged into the motherboard directly, take off the back panel of the case and find the fan hub, if you find all your fans connected here, well that the problem, you need to unplug them and find spare headers on the motherboard to allow control of the fan rpm's
