I am looking to spend roughly £150 on a motherboard, RAM and CPU.

Not sure what to go for. Graded stock and used are both acceptable.

Could i have some specs on new and graded and some suggestions on what to be aiming for in the second hand market please.

What's it used for, is it a build you're doing for someone else?
Brand new you're going to struggle with 150, if you could up a bit more, perhaps an FX6300, board and RAM?

Could go the FX4300, but I don't rate them at all.

It's for myself, that's why I'm OK with second hand. Its going to be a bit of work horse to replace my very tired socket 939 system. System is currently used for backups, itunes, media library. I don't game on this rig.

For those sort of tasks a haswell pentium and a B85 board would be a great base.

Intel Core i3-4130 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

MSI B85M-P33 Intel B85 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard

TeamGroup Elite 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED34GM1600HC11DC01)

Basket comes to £166 (which is fine)

Worth putting a bundle wanted thread in the wanted section of the MM imho.

Yeah I did think too. What sort of bundle do you think I would be looking at for £150?

You could easily get an i7 920/930/940 etc with a good motherboard and 6GB of triple channel for that money in the MM.

Sounds like a home server application.

If so then consider power consumption, a H81 board with a modern dual core celeron / pentium will be plenty fast enough and be half the power usage of a fully featured i5 / i7 system.
