Mobo with PCI-E that won't be block by 8800GTX

Hi,

I'm going to be buying a quad core inetl CPU but I also want a PCI-E network card:-

on my current MOBO the other PCI-E slot is completely useless as it's covered by the 8800GTX, do the newer boards have a better layout?

pci-e network cards have zero advantage over regular pci ones because their bandwidth is way lower than even regular pci but i dont think theres any motherboards where theres a pci-e x1 slot before the x16 one

PCIe x1 has 264 Mbps of bandwidth, PCI has 133 Mbps.

true but standard network speed is 10/100 and therefore theres no point in needing more.

The Asus P5K Deluxe motherboard has two PCI-E x1 slots above its PCI-E x16 slot

You could just buy a mainboard (if your getting one anyways) with onboard 1gb network plug, mines got one onboard, no idea how this connects to the chipset though

network speed up to 1000 now...(My motherboard has 2x 10/100/1000 LAN sockets)

got a evga 680i with 3 pci-e slots. top oe is occupied by 8800gts middle one has a an lsi logic SCSI card and fits in there nicely without obstructing the gfx card. hope that helps

Do you transfer large files a lot? As in 4gb+?

I use to transfer a lot of movie files back and forward between my main PC and my media PC..As i used to keep all my DVD movies ripped to my int harddrives..

(But now i have most of them on 300gb & 500gb ext SATA & USB2 hardrives ,so i just plug them into whichever PC i want to use them on)

Gigabit lan is awesome for raided NAS, normall 100 megabit lags it a lot.
Hell, 100mbit isnt even enough for proper remote desktop, when you're watching a film over external desktop, on 100mbit it might lag the sound, I've had that happen very often.
