Mod Rewrite Query

Is this possible?

Currently displaying page content based on a page id variable i.e.

http://www.mysite.co.uk/index.php?pageid=1

Could I re write this to be:

http://www.mysite.co.uk/pagename

I've found examples of changing it to http://www.mysite.co.uk/page/1, but I want to put the page name in rather than the ID. Is this possible?

I've googled it, but seems to only be solutions for number - number, or text - text, not one to the other, if that makes sense?

Yes it needs to be dynamic as pages will be added/deleted - I could probably amend it so that it uses the page name rather than the page id.
