Hi,

I was wondering if any of you have modded your 360's in anyway? I already own an elite but was thinking of looking on the bay for a damaged one that I coulf rip apart, fix and maybe mod the case, or build a new one from scratch.

I'd love a little R2D2 360 :)

Anyone know of decent websites with some on?

Thanks

Yep the fan noise got too much for me it sounded like an airplane at take off so I opened it up (not bothered about warranty as its been ultra reliable since Sept 2006 so unlikely to fail now). Then I cut out all the rear panel fan grills (both plastic case & metal inner grills).

Then i fitted these talismoon Whisper Max fans. You get a choice of 3 LED colours. Blue is already fitted but they give you a spare 4 x Red + 4 x Green LEDS if you want to change them over.

That button hanging down is the 240% fan speed mode @ 12V otherwise I leave it on 5V and its really quiet now I have taken it out of the desk cupboard it was in previously. Makes a big difference as these fans are ok at 5V and no overheating whatsoever even after playing games for 6 hours with the central heating up full blast. In the cupboard it ramped up to full speed which is almost as noisy as the stock Deltas. You can fit these without cutting your case they will replace the existing fans but I did this after reading up on it as its supposed to slightly increase the exhaust airflow by removing resistance.

MS are unlikely to ever fix this fan noise issue as they are happy with the thermal design which is why they have the noisy Delta fans to extract the hot air. Originally the 360 was going to have 80mm fans but the case design chosen dictated the smaller 70mm ones. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox360/xbox360theguts.htm

I know my mod does not look pretty:o but its almost quiet so not bothered about the back anway as you hardly ever see it. Also not bothered about the ban hammer from MS as thats an urban legend about people getting banned for changing their fans for different models. As long as you dont go silly with LED bling & or other voltage sapping mods it will be fine. You can also add an 80mm fan above the GPU HSF by cutting the case above then fitting a fan grill which would then increase the cooling a little more along with replacing the MS thermal compound for something better (I left mine for now as it seems fine for over 29 months so why change it!).

Lol, I did the 'remove metal and plastic grill' mod as above, plus installed some Talismoons on an old 360 I had.

The console was actually noisier afterwards. Basically, Talismoon fans are pants, but look nice though :p

I sprayed the case of my 360 black with the ctrl+alt+del logo on it, but not done any other mods etc to the case (x-clamp mod has been done to the board though)

Snap!

They pushed a lot more air but were noisy. My new 360 is nice and quiet though :)

I'd quite like a decent clear case for my 360 though.

Which fans though?? There are 2 types and the first Whisper fans were noisier than stock. The new Whisper Max are pretty quiet now @ 5V.

Those 2 Akasa Amber 80mm fans were ultra quiet but it kept overheating so they had to come off again as you need fans inside the case to get the hot air away from the GPU ASAP. CPU is very cool but the GPU is red hot after a few minutes. You can get 2 x 70mm silent fans inside the case but they do not push enough CFM so are a waste of money. It would help if the fans were the right way...

They're blowing into the 360.
