Hi all,

I've noticed my Northbridge (System) temps jump up 10 degrees or so since I switched to my new case (Lian-Li PC-7FW). It's only in the late 40s but I’d like to get a bit more airflow around that part of the case anyway.

I'm replacing the exhaust fan that came with the case with an Xigmatek 120mm XLF-F1253. Hopefully I’ll upgrade the intake with a 140mm version but nowhere has them in stock! There are probably better fans out there but I love the look of these and have heard great things about them.

I've come up with 2 ideas so far for the Northbridge area:

Mod a fan to sit in the top drive cage to act as another intake fan. The only problem there is how it gets the air from the front of the case.

Get a RAM cooler. It would cool my RAM but at the same time get air going around that area of the MOBO. The only problem with this is there is little room between where the cooler would fasten on and the graphics card.

I was thinking of modding a fan to the side window but decided I like the look of it without.

40 degrees is nothing when it comes to the Northbridge but it would be good to drop it by a few degrees. I’ll probably end up with better temps anyway once the new fans are in but I was just interested to see if anyone else has modded fans in there case to cool a certain area.

Not at all. To be honest it's not a "must" im just curious.

I had a problem on my old system with the NB temps getting really hot. They are fine on this but a bit more air flowing over the passive NB would be nice.

I'm just interested to see if other people have come up with custom ways of cooling parts of their cases :)

Is that a UD3R or P, if it is the system temp your concerned about isn't the Northbridge temp as there isn't a readable sensor on it.

It is the reading from a sensor on the motherboard, where that is exactly I dont know but I would guess at under the graphics card.

At those temps it won't be a problem though.

UD3R.

Always thought the System temp was read from the Northbridge.

Agreed 40 degrees is fine. I was just seeing if anyone has modded fans and custom cooling bits to point to certain areas :)

@hairydave - Cheers for the info. I was looking at the Lian-Li Hard Drive Bay Kit earlier on today. Looks quite good but it's a bit pricey.

@PhillyDee - I remember seeing that fan advertised a while back but couldn't remember who made it so cheers for that! Definitely looks the part and has good reviews. Might be worth looking into that for a bit of extra cooling.
