Not sure if its against the rules talking about a modded xbox but it wasnt me that modded it and its not mine. My mate brought his chipped xbox round the other night because mine is honest (honestly) and we played on it for a few hours, he had a lot of games that were all over the floor so we piled them onto the top of the xbox and there was no problem all night.

Next day I played on it for about an hour and there was no problem, couple of hours later I turned it on and 4 red lights surprise surprise, I rang my mate to tell him and he was like I'll deal with it tomorrow. Now this mornin he sends me a text sayin "when it was chipped it had some thing done to it to stop it from heating and then you piled the games on top of it, which I told you not to do and now its broken"

Now he never said anythin about puttin the games ontop other than they might fall over, the xbox was played for like 3hours like this and then again the next day without a problem, when it broke I just pressed the power button, I didnt cain it or anythin that could make it get hot, so did I break it? And is it even possible to fix?

Cheers, if its against the rules I'm sorry but I'm not really expectin anyone to tell me exactly what to do (but if they do I'm not gonna complain), just whether or nto its my fault.

piling discs on top is gonna cause it to overheat? How old is your friend? 3?

Tell him to get a grip, if you had wrapped it in cotton wool then fair enough, my xbox is on the carpet next to the radiator all the time and its not gone wrong yet, had it since christmas. I would say its just bad luck.

Sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 are flashing red - The AV cable cannot be detected

THINGS TO TRY

1. Make sure that the AV cable is correctly connected to the Xbox 360 console.
2. Disconnect the AV cable from the Xbox 360 console, and then reconnect the AV cable to the Xbox 360 console.
3. If the four flashing red lights continue to flash, try wiping the metal area of the AV pack with a dry cloth. The metal area is the end that plugs into the console. Wipe the metal area thoroughly, and then try the AV Pack again.
4. If the AV cable is correctly connected but the four red lights are still flashing, substitute a different AV cable if you have one available.

Check out my sticky.

yeah I had a look at those but thought they wouldnt apply once its been modded. I had a go anyway and it worked! Started up fine from what I can tell, well no red lights anyway, cheers mate I well appreciate it.

You reckon it was just not plugged in properly or summat then? I didnt think it applied cos like I said its chipped but also becasue the cables are from my xbox and I swapped the cables over and it all worked fine.

You stacked discs on a vertical Xbox360? Madness.

either way, doesn't matter. 4 red lights just means the video cable has come out. Push it back in.

no it was lay down, dont ever put them on their side now, not after I bought GTA4 and had it in vertical, knocked it over by accident and it made some horrible grindin noise and carved concentric circles in the disk, cant knock it over if its lay down.

Most likely problem here is the Xbox committed suicide. Not surprised with the way you seem to treat it.

if you had games stacked up on top of one another in the middle of the xbox I doubt it would have made much difference though if they where all over the top of the xbox and blocking the air vents then it might have helped kill it. Though I've had my wii on top of the centre of my old xbox and it didnt die during that period.

try the towel trick on it

You'd be crazy to do this!

Also:

3 red lights = General Hardware failure,
2 red lights = overheated,
4 red lights = AV unplugged.

The OP fixed his 4 red lights by plugging AV in poperly so no need to do the crazy towel trick! ;)
