Hi there,

I am going to start producing electronic music...

I would like to buy a macbook pro but budget will not allow.

I have Compaq Presario CQ60 granted its mega old, i remember taking it apart once and didnt manage to get into it fully as it looked stupid to open, so if anyone could show me a guide to stripping it fully that would be appriciated.

The main question is... how far can i push this without it exploding and running comfortably, obviously i would like to upgrade the sound card, the ram and the hdd to ssd, is all of this possible? mainly due to the fan configuration im worried about doing this, as it gets pretty hot already :( im not intrested in voiding the warrenty or whatever with it being so old.

just want it to run smoother and faster nd be able to handle ableton or fl studio.

any recomendations or help would be greatly greatly appriciated.

regards,
lewis.

upgrading the RAM and HDD to SSD should be just popping some covers off. look like it only supports 4GB. SSD should work I have one in a core2duo. you wont be able to do anything with the soundcard as its part of the motherboard.

just look on youtube, the HDD and RAM have covers on the back easy to remove.

Thanks for the reply man prob best build a midi then I built one before but maybe don't need mad graphics card in it... Gonna need plenty of ram and storage tho I thought I may be able to get at least 8gb out that laptop but 4 prob won't be enough... Budget is around £400 mark got a screen just need keyboard n mouse after that...

Cheers.
Lewis

i had a cq56 with a dual core and 4gb ram though could take 8gb and wasnt a bad laptop actually, only downside was it couldnt handle 1080p movie files, but with hd4000 graphics it was top be expected, didnt really do much else other than upgrade to windows 10..

if we talking about a tower then you wont be too limited to what you can upgrade, but certainly can get better on the laptop side, you would want an APU based one.
