hi all,
Am thinking of doing some (hopefully) minor mods to a Hoojum Cubit 3 case i recently got off MM (wasn't really for me but hey things happen!).
I'm not a modder by any stretch of the imagination so i'm looking for elegant and pain-free mods. Also, i can only allocate a couple of hours each week to do this so this is going to take a loooooong time
It's er pink... and listed below are a few questions and some targets:
1. It's powder coated in pink, can i just get some primer and some nice shiny metallic car paint spray to sort out the colour?
2. Looking to fit inside:
1155 mitx mob
2500k
low profile cooler
low profile ram (saw some vengeance 1.35v ones..v. nice)
1tb 2.5 hdd
128gb SSD
Silverstone SFX 450W
and lastly... GTX560ti (Gainward short PCB version!)
Doable?
I'm thinking:
1. backplate: no way am going to cut through some seriously thick aluminium! Was thinking of cutting out exactly the rear panel use acrylic (buy a dremel?).. this will house obvious the mobo IO plate but more importantly the SFX PSU! I've done some cursory measurements and it might just work!
2. slot loading dvd stays. At the moment there is a 3.5" hdd.. going to fit 2x2.5" drivers laterallynear the front of the case. The multiple grooves on either side looks as though i can cut stufff out and slot in to either hold up or suspend the bits i'm looking to put in.
3. Should be able to angle an 80mm fan near the front blowing onto the cpu and mobo
4. was thinking of filing the bottom lip edge to the front and back to aid airflow but had a bit of a eureka moment. Instead, i'm just going to put a couple of plastic clear washers on the front screws. This will leave a small gap between the front plate and the body. This will hopefully allow air to get in more (instead of just the cubit name cut out). If i put some nice led lights inside, it'll be quite a nice feature at night time
(hope you can imagine this).
5. If all of that goes according to plan, next thing i need is to get the most powerful gfx card i can fit in there... my brief research tells me it's the Gainward gTX 560ti (er... about 7"-7.5" long?). Problem is it's dual slot. Please read on:
6. Plan to cut the front bit where the dvi cable would go into a single slot thingy (dremel and then some filing should do the trick i reckon).
7. Then it's removing the stock cooler and finding....
...this is the bit where i'm a bit stumped on. i reckon i have about 26mm clearance between pcb and interior side panel.
I've googled high and low and nobody seems to have done any gfx cooler mods. Need some ideas with this one.
Chances are..all of it may not even be possible and i'll just end up using it as media pc or something.
Anyway, for now, any input would be most welcome. thanks!!
edit: added some pics. It's got a low profile gt 220 in there at the moment.
