Hi all,

I know a lot of games can be improved by modding but I've never really done much (if any) before.

Thinking of doing it for Skyrim mainly and what website should I be using and what programs for zipping and downloading? Would rather not pay for a program but don't want a dodgy one or one that installs a load of **** on my computer to be able to use it.

Cheers in advance.

Nexus Mod Manager is a godsend. It doesn't install a bunch of crap, it's just the mod manager itself and it works with quite a few different games. Keeps everything nice and organized, you can simply check and uncheck boxes for which mods you want to have access to and it also handles the downloading of everything straight to your game folders so you dont have to do much unzipping or file movement yourself.

Saves a ton of hassle.

Steam Workshop is also pretty easy to use but it seems like Nexus Mod Manager has the greater amount of mods available and it will also make it easier to manage those mods, which can be pretty important if you start getting carried away and get conflict issues.

As Rumble says above, Gopher will walk you through things step-by-step, assuming you have little to no knowledge of how modding works. It's how I got started on my modding as well. Good stuff.

Theres 2 main ways to mod skyrim, through steam is quickest and easiest (hit subscribe to the mod, itll auto download and install next time you launch the game).

The nexus using manual modding or their mod manager (personally i've never managed to get it to work for some reason) but the nexus doesnt have steams 100mb limit and a lot of the really good mods are nexus only, or the nexus version is better.

I'd advise start with steam, get a flavour for it (just sub to a bunch you like the look of), once youve got further then using the nexus and more tricky stuff can come later.
