hi, i have been thinking about now for afew years to make a model railway even though i have no interest in real trains or transportion on a whole i really want to have my own model railway. i have a spare room and think i could go as big as 8' x 8' table

it would be so cool, i know im a geek lol

any advice from anyone in the know would be great

My Grandad is massively into model railway.. I've helped him build some of his layout as I enjoy the wiring. It depends on how far you wanna go with it though, do you wanna start from absolute scratch, build up all your own scenery etc? Then decide if you're going to replicate a station or make it all up, choose a scale and era :D

thanks, i never though about it in detail but would like a 40s era, wartime. have no idea about scale yet. i would imagine the scenery and station would be brought from a shop.

Ass a kid I remember getting some stuff in "n" gauge and it going so much further as it was a lot smaller so even with a modest space we could have a fun layout rather than just a couple of loops with some points

With that space you might like to go for an end to end layout rather than round and round? Something like a Train Maintenance Depot - and start small. If you start a massive layout its likely you won't get near finishing it.

I know where of I speak LOL. I had to give up in the end as we moved. I kept all the sound stuff and kept the wireless DCC system. Hopefully I'll get something up in the new house someday.
