For the last 1-2 weeks I’ve been having a problem with my internet. Every night after 17:00GMT until about 23:00GMT my modem will reset intermittently. It could be every 30 seconds or every 30 minutes. Here is some information that may help someone tell me what my problem is.

Motorola SURFboard SB4100
Linksys WRT54G V.2
4MB Virgin Media

If there is any other info needed just ask. Thank you for the help in advance and I hope someone can help me fix my problem.

if you browse to http://192.168.100.1 does it ask for a password?
If so, the username & password is root. (IE, user: root, password: root)
Now try and find your downstream information.

You are looking for:
Downstream Receive Power Level : xxx dBmV
Downstream SNR : xxx dB

Downstream Receive Power: Ideally +/- 3dBmV, cause for concern at around +/- 8dBmV, different modems handle the higher and lower levels differently however I'd expect to see service degredation at that point.

Downstream SNR: Minimums are 24.5dB on the Langley platform and 26dB on the Bromley platform. Again these aren't the minimums required to function but when you're down this low you're teetering on the brink of losing your service.

If the signal levels are ok then it is something that is happening past the modem itself.

If cable / ADSL modems cannot re-sync, they sometimes reset and try again.
You could have a dodgey cable multiplexer somewhere on your local cable infrastructure causing trouble (around peak times, when load is high)

It's possible, would be interesting to know if anyone else in your street is having the same issue.
