Hi there everyone, I have recently upgraded my speed with virgin media, not my choice to be with them but i live with it.

well my internet connection used to go from the set top box now it's a modem, My problem is when i turn on my pc I don't get any internet. The only way to get my internet is to unplug the ethernet and power to the modem, put power back in, turn pc on, plug in ethernet.

once internet is working it's fine im getting good speeds and everything but that is too much hassle to live with.

Even getting the internet to work at first wasen't self explanetetry, the book said to go a website to activate but no mention of haveing to ring up customer service to give them my mac address which i have done now.

heres my ip config from cmd in vista 64bit

It sounds like Virgin have a bit of an issue with DHCP. I use Virgin via a modem connected to a Linksys router. If I turn the router off and then back on again, I can have all sorts of issues with the router getting an IP from the modem.

To resolve I have to turn off the router and the modem, turn on the modem then the router. Then on the status page in the router config I have to release and renew the IP for the WAN interface a dozen or so times!

I rang customer services about this and they were totally useless. (Have I turned the modem off and on, the router is what the problem is, disable your firewall and other c_ap like that!!!!! )

As a bodge type of workarond you may consider getting a router as I have, as this will retain the Virgin IP on the wan interface. So you will not loose the IP when you turn on/off your PC. Still not 100% however I only need to reboot the router once in a blue moon!

Thanks, will check out possibly getting a router tommorow, anyone else have any suggestions, and also anyone have any suggestions on routers? will check out linksys ones.
