Modem overloading USB?

I have recently, setup with Tiscalli after moving from a network ethernet lan setup before I moved house.

Anyway I have a Thompson SpeedTouch USB ADSL PPP modem, and since I have had this connection, my Media Centre box part of Windows Media Center Edition kept losing its connection though the USB. I had to either unplug the usb and then plug back in or restart the PC.

So I think the Modem is drawing too much power causing the Media Centre box to fail?

Questions, my modem does not have a power inlet. Also its down though a phone filter, which splits the phone and broadband slot. I am thinking cant I just a get a connection from the filter, to the network slot? What lead would I need, as the network end is twice as big as the filter end.

cheers
