modem shutting pc down

Hi guys. when i boot pc and try to connect to internet, i usually get the modem error, ( blah blah host computer not responding etc) so i usually have to reset modem and that does the fix... but recently upgraded to tiscali 8mb broadband. when i reset the modem. it goes red. then yellow initialising, then green. then pc dies. reboot shows (system has recovered from serious error)

possibly faulty hardware,can you try a different modem?or try that modem in another pc?see if it causes the same problem

its usually 1st thing in the morning, i just been on modems web page and maybe update driver. ill have a look at that. i have a router and may have a go at that too. thanks
