Modern day equivalent?

My dad bought some Celestion Ditton 15XR speakers in the 80s and has given them to me (they still work :D) but there is a rattle in the left speaker. Finding these speakers to buy is like pulling teeth so I was thinking of possibly upgrading the speakers. What would be the modern day equivalent of these? I don't want anything smaller than these and would preferably like 3 cones (tweeter, mid and bass). If possible, I would also like to spend under £150 for a pair. Any suggestions?

Sorry if I have said something wrong in here, I am no speaker expert! ;)

Thanks

Here is a picture of the speakers (with my desk)

Ive got a set of audioengine A5s and theyre cracking, bit more than your budget but they do a smaller version, the 2s, which Im sure will be very good too, only use 2 cones mind but still the sound quality is the best
These are self amplified speakers BTW, not sure if your old ones are or if you have a separate amp, if youre using a separate amp then Id say just check out what hifi and richersounds, youll soon be sorted

You could try the Wharfedale Diamond 10.3, they are a little over your £150 budget with only two cones, but they are great speakers.

Decent speakers with two cones are better than making sure you have three cones, but worse quality.

I had some of these years ago. TBH I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything modern that sounds like them.

They don't have 3 'active' drive units either. The bottom 'woofer' isn't actually a proper drive unit, rather something called a passive radiator. This works out of phase with the actual woofer (i.e. is sucked into the cabinet when the woofer travels outwards and vice versa). It was an early take on/alternative to the bass reflex port. Some more modern speakers use them, and the purpose is to improve bass response. They have no magnets or connection to the amplifier/crossover in any way. They're simply cone shaped bits of solid foam IIRC.

So really, you won't miss anything by buying a simple 2-driver pair of speakers, and infact will probably find them to be quite a bit better for bass as the 15XRs were not the best speakers ever in that regard.

I've got a pair of 44's however one has a blown tweeter that I really need to replace. Fantastic speakers and eventually want to fully refurb them or upgrade to some 66's. I've never listened to anything within a decent price range that can compare. I'm sure I see ditton 15;s coming up on ebay all the time....
