So I got chatting to a bloke who is working in my local kebab shop who is always cordial and a pretty nice chap and I touched on the subject of when he arrived here and whether he'd done any travelling around the UK since arriving. Nope - pretty much stuck in one place it seems.

Basically he's living above the shop and works 6 or 7 day weeks which must be tough so I offered to drive him around some of the not-too-distant areas to show him some of the countryside and history. Castles, country manors and stuff like that. He seems really keen so I said I'll give him a tour and he can join me and a few mates one weekend when we do our usual country jaunts. I gave him my phone number to arrange something.

Get my food and about to walk out and the guv'nor is going mad at him - literally shouting and shaking a fist... WTF is that all about? Am I right to be suspicious? Sounds dodgy to me tbh. I'm willing to bet this is quite a common thing.

That'd be his people smuggler. Probably worried he'll grass to you about it. Immigrants are easily exploited as they aren't fully aware of their rights in this country.

I suspect this might be right in all honesty given the churn of staff. Maybe why they are apparently confined to the premises. I feel bad for the guys in all honesty as they seem a bit brow-beaten.

Despite the popular rhetoric I think it's easy to forget that the people caught up in this sort of crap are often, you know, people and not total scumbags.

It does sound like it. Suppose if he's still better off here sending money home or whatever and having a more comfortable life than he would have done previously then he won't be looking to escape?

Yeah I suppose so. Still the offer is on the table - maybe we might suss it out if he comes out with us lot and we can help him out if it's all a bit dodgy. Really nice friendly bloke and I'd not like him to be exploited.

Otherwise, meh, let the system do it's job (or not).

If it's anything like the kebab shops (and car washes too) around here he's probably an illegal, so he shouldn't be here in the first place let alone working. Report the place, and if it turns out that he's legal then no harm is done anyway.

If television is to be believed, there are 2 types of employees in take away restaurants.
1. Hideously exploited family members.
2. Hideously exploited immigrants being paid food and board to live in a cupboard.

I expect him to be number 2.

You got a weird fetish mate, inviting strangers from kebab shops for a tour around the countryside. lol

That’s a funny one coming from you.

Maybe OP just sees good in anyone despite of what they look like, where they work etc etc. What kind of people should we only invite then?

sounds like a top man (or maybe he is looking to kill someone and is looking for someone no one will miss).

We need to keep our modern slaves overseas making our cheap electronics, clothes and food... not so nice when you have to mix with them (personally I don't want to give up my life style for someone else's benefit)
